Rivers

Rivers

Bible references:

There are many references to rivers in the Bible.  Many of these are spiritual, holy rivers, bringing the waters of a new spiritual life in God.  Other rivers though, like the Jordan where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, are ordinary rivers, existing in our temporal world, and my painting is of one of these ordinary rivers.  Here are some Bible verses about rivers:-

Genesis 2:10   “A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches”.

Psalm 1:3   “They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.  In all that they do, they prosper”.

Psalm 46:4   “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High”.

Ezekiel 47:12   “On the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food.  Their leaves will not wither nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary.  Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing”.

John 7:38   “… As the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water”.

Revelation 22:1-2   “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city.  On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month;  and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations”.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we praise you who made heaven and earth and all that is in them.  We thank you for all rivers great and small, wide and slow moving, narrow and full of rapids and waterfalls.  We thank you for the beauty of rivers and for the life their waters bring.  Thank you for the beautiful works you have created Lord.   Amen.
